Spotlight of the month - Lindsay Wrightson 04/16/2010
Lindsay Wrightson is one of the newest additions to the Diabetes and Endocrinology family. As a nurse, she worked at Emory Midtown Hospital for 3 years. She then earned her Master’s degree in nursing and became a nurse practitioner, and worked at a family practice for 3 years. Lindsay joined Diabetes and Endocrinology in January of 2010.

Lindsay, what experiences in your past jobs made you interested in Endocrinology and Diabetes?
Lindsay: While working at the hospital, I took care of many patients with diabetes. Most patients would come to my floor after an orthopedic surgery. I began to discover just how important good blood glucose control was to the patients’ recovery and would healing. A lot of these patients also suffered from complications of diabetes stemming from poor control of their blood sugar. I took care of patients who underwent amputations and who were on dialysis as a result of poorly controlled diabetes. All of these patient experiences made me want to do something more to help prevent these complications. I wanted to learn more about the management and treatment of diabetes.

Why did you choose Diabetes and Endocrinology Associates?
Lindsay: I chose Diabetes and Endocrinology Associates because I really liked the comprehensive approach the practice takes when caring for their patients. I also really liked all of the resources they have available for the patients and the team approach to patient care!

When you are not at work, what are your interests?
Lindsay: I really enjoy being active. I like running, and I am always looking for a new sport to try. I have recently started to bike. It is definitely a challenge, but it is turning out to be a lot of fun! I also like cooking and trying new recipes.

What is one thing that is unique about you?
Lindsay: I have three younger sisters and we are all in the healthcare field. I have one sister studying to be a physician’s assistant, one in nursing school, and another in undergrad who is pursuing a position in the healthcare field.

We are excited to welcome Lindsay as one of the newest members of the Diabetes and Endocrinology team. In her short time here, she has already made a difference in the lives of patients. We know Lindsay will continue to help patients and their families as she grows with the practice!
