Thyroid

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland that resides at the base of the neck. Its main function is to produce thyroid hormone, which regulates various aspects of metabolism. As such, an imbalance of thyroid hormone (whether underactive or overactive) can affect numerous organs in the body, with implications on skin, hair, digestion, mood, heart rate, energy levels, etc.

At Diabetes and Endocrinology Associates, we manage thyroid conditions including:

-Hypothyroidism (medication-induced, Hashimotos thyroiditis, transient thyroiditis, radiation-induced, post-surgical)

-Hyperthyroidism (Graves disease, toxic nodules, transient thyroiditis, medication or supplement-induced)

-Thyroid nodules

-Thyroid enlargement/goiters

-Thyroid cancer (including follicular, papillary, medullary, and anaplastic)

-Thyroid abnormalities in pregnancy
